LiveHive Adds Mobile Functionality to its Two-Screen ITV Platform
NanoGaming Platform Initially Targeted at Fantasy Sports Players
At [itvt]'s TV of Tomorrow Show in San Francisco last month, LiveHive Systems, an Ontario-based company that specializes in two-screen interactive TV solutions, announced that it has added mobile functionality to its flagship Web-based NanoGaming platform. According to the company, the NanoGaming platform's new functionality means that mobile users and Web users will be able to play together and compete against one another in tournaments: "Until now, users were presented with either a Web application or a mobile application, but there was no opportunity for them to communicate in a shared experience between the two platforms," the company said in a prepared statement announcing its platform's new multiplatform capabilities. Although the platform can be used in conjunction with any live TV sports or entertainment event, LiveHive is initially positioning NanoGaming as a solution likely to appeal to fantasy sports players, allowing the latter, for example, to play along on a mobile phone while at an actual sporting event, or on their PC or laptop when watching sports on TV: it is currently targeting the two biggest sports in the fantasy sports space--football and baseball--and launched a NanoGaming for Baseball service on April 1st, in anticipation of the upcoming baseball season. According to the company, the platform lets players make up to 400 predictions during a game.
During the recent Super Bowl, LiveHive conducted a closed trial of consumers who followed the game and took part in a NanoGaming for Football game on its site, http://www.speedofsport.com. According to the company, data gathered from the trial showed that the NanoGaming platform has broad appeal to consumers: "Our Super Bowl test study showed that NanoGaming not only kept players watching the game longer, but also made the game more exciting for them," Rob Riopelle, LiveHive's co-founder and VP of business development, said in a prepared statement. "Feedback from players showed that while NanoGaming has great appeal to fantasy sports enthusiasts, who tend to be young affluent males, it also appeals to a broader demographic including women and non-sports enthusiasts."
